A fundraiser linked to the Castlecrag charity car featured by Forestville News last year has returned to the road in 2026, exceeding his fundraising target for Variety NSW/ACT.
Geoff “Tangles” Cropley raised $4,654.31 against a $4,500 target for the 2026 Variety Backyard Bash, a six-day regional NSW event held from 9 to 14 August. Cropley’s latest campaign follows his involvement in the 2025 Outback Car Trek, where he and Mark “Chine” Vincent were identified as participants driving a 1967 MGB.
Forestville News had featured a Castlecrag-linked 1967 MGB before that event. Known as the Outback Tiger, the car was entered in the Trek to support the Royal Flying Doctor Service and had raised $8,865 towards a $10,000 target when the story was published.
From the Outback Trek to Variety
The 2025 Outback Car Trek ran from Bathurst to Cairns from 30 May to 8 June, with 240 trekkers taking part. The Royal Flying Doctor Service later reported that the event raised more than $1.58 million, taking cumulative Trek fundraising beyond $37 million.
A year later, Cropley joined the Variety Backyard Bash, which travelled from Bella Vista through Mudgee, Dubbo, Griffith, Albury and Cowra before finishing in Bathurst. Variety NSW/ACT uses the event to raise money for programs and assistance supporting children who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with disability.
Cropley’s fundraising finished more than $150 above his individual target.
A familiar name returns
The ZOO name associated with the 2025 fundraising entry also appears on Cropley’s 2026 Variety page, including a reference to “Bert, the ZOO Fund Raising Manager”.
The update provides the next chapter to last year’s local motoring fundraiser: Cropley has taken part in another charity road event and again raised thousands of dollars along the way.
