Multimedia Theatre Production ‘Me and My Shadows’ Set to Captivate Forestville Audiences

An original adaptation of Goethe’s Faust will be performed in Forestville, featuring a unique blend of music, movement, and puppetry to explore contemporary themes.

“Me and My Shadows,” a multimedia rendition of Goethe’s venerable drama Faust, is scheduled to be performed in Forestville. Set for March 2025, Kamaroi Rudolf Steiner School will host this production, with live musicians, Eurythmy movement, coloured light, shadow effects, and puppetry.

Supported by local organisations such as the St John Sydney Group and The Anthroposophical Society in Australia, the production has been in development for several months, aiming to bring a modernised and thought-provoking interpretation of the 17th-18th century literary masterpiece.

Exploring Timeless Themes in a Modern Context

The play delves into crucial contemporary issues such as mental health, addiction, trauma, and self-discovery, using Goethe’s original text alongside a new character, ‘The Teacher,’ inspired by Rudolf Steiner’s spiritual insights.

The character guides audiences through the moral and existential dilemmas faced by Dr Henry Faust as he navigates the consequences of his choices across different spiritual realms.

Community Collaboration and Support

“Me and My Shadows” is the result of a collaborative effort involving actors, musicians, choir members, and technical crews from across the Northern Beaches community. The production has received an Arts & Creativity Grant from NBC, further bolstering its impact and accessibility.

In addition, Easylink, a local transport service, is offering free rides for attendees with mobility challenges to ensure no one misses out on the experience.

Event Details and Accessibility

Performances will be held on several dates in March, including an accessible session for senior audiences. The venue is wheelchair accessible, and refreshments, including tea, coffee, and light snacks, will be available for purchase. Seating consists of wooden chairs; attendees are encouraged to bring cushions for added comfort.

Unfortunately, due to the exploration of adult themes, this play is deemed unsuitable for children. It is recommended for mature audiences aged 16 and above.
